Hilary Newman: Vertical Gardening
It was a dark and stormy night, but again the hall was full with members and visitors waiting to hear "Master Gardener" Hilary Newman telling us how to hide that ugly fence or wall. Hilary started his career working under glass then moved to Edinburgh Botanics where he gained his degree and later moved to RHS Wisley. His knowledge of plants is extensive and with each slide he gave us full details of the best plant for varying locations, soil types and their maintenance. A most informative, useful and well timed talk which will help us choose and plant in the coming season. One of the categories in this month’s show was a knitted blanket to be given to the Premature Baby Unit at the Conquest Hospital. This was very well supported particularly by Busy Fingers and not surprisingly one of their group came first in that category. Many thanks to all those who entered. EF After Hilary's fascinating talk about climbers and wall shrubs, he was kind enough to provide an annotated list of the plants he discussed.
